Zagreb Narrowly Defeated by Mladost

Krtičnjak, September 21, 2025 – In the great Zagreb rugby derby, Mladost claimed victory over Zagreb in a thrilling match filled with fast-paced action, dramatic turnarounds, and genuine sporting tension right up to the final whistle.
After an excellent warm-up match, Zagreb started strong, taking an early 12–0 lead with two quick tries from Luka Šiklić and Niko Vranešević. Their dynamic play caused problems for Mladost, but a series of self-inflicted errors and moments of indiscipline opened the door for the hosts to catch up and eventually take the lead.

Mladost maintained their advantage until the end, despite several dangerous attacks from Zagreb. The visitors came closest in the 67th minute when Ivan Šojić scored a try and Niko Vranešević converted, narrowing the gap to just four points. However, two yellow cards and repeated mistakes prevented them from completing the comeback.
The drama peaked in the final attack. Zagreb pushed with all their strength for the decisive try that could have won them the match, but in the dying seconds — with ball in hand — an attacking infringement ended their hopes.

Despite the loss, Zagreb proved they will be serious contenders this season. The inclusion of young players adapting quickly to senior-level rugby added special value to the team’s performance. The Zagreb forwards also deserve praise for their tireless work throughout the game.
Unfortunately, the match was also marked by bad news for Mladost — injuries to two key players, Jan Vlašić and Leon Crnobrnja. The entire rugby community wishes them a swift and full recovery.

Congratulations to Mladost on a well-deserved victory and a strong performance. Despite the defeat, our club continues to grow from game to game, showing that with youthful energy and unity, Zagreb can build a bright future.
