Sinj Defeats Zagreb 08:20

September 24, 2022 – Rugby Center Rudeš, Zagreb

Zagreb – Sinj 8:20 (8:12)

A great spectacle — the opening match of the Croatian Rugby Championship — did not disappoint! The presence of the President of the Republic of Croatia, Zoran Milanović, along with several officials from his office, added extra excitement to the atmosphere. In front of a large crowd of cheerful supporters, Sinj started the match stronger and soon scored the opening try. However, Zagreb responded quickly with a beautiful attacking move to put their own points on the board.

The second half saw a series of mistakes from both sides. When Zagreb finally managed to string together several good phases and advance to within five meters of Sinj’s try line, another error shifted the momentum back to Sinj’s favor.

Sinj then extended their lead with a penalty goal, bringing the score difference to seven points, and in the final minutes sealed the match with another try — ending with a 20:8 victory for the visitors.

The President enjoyed the match and the lively atmosphere, even offering a few comments on the play before leaving the field satisfied. As true hosts, we prepared the traditional “third half” — rugby’s long-standing custom of coming together after the game to share drinks, laughter, and above all, mutual respect. There was plenty of beer — and even more friendship. Congratulations to Sinj on their victory and fair play, and to our boys for giving their all on the field.
