U18 ragbi 7s reprezentacija odputovala u Budimpeštu

U18 reprezentacija

The Croatian U18 Rugby 7s national team has traveled to the Hungarian capital for an important international tournament taking place this weekend. The Trophy tournament serves as one of the key tests for young rugby players on the European stage, offering our representatives a chance to showcase the progress made during the preparation period.

Among the Croatian squad are three of our own players, whose quality performances have earned them a place on the national team: Mihael Jeleč, Ivano Šojić, and Leo Rudnicki. Representing our club’s colors, they bring valuable experience and skills developed through dedicated training and competition.

Notably, Ivano Šojić has been named team captain, a testament to his leadership and talent. This season has been exceptionally successful for Šojić — in addition to his U18 appearances, he has also played for Croatia’s senior 7s national team. That higher-level experience will undoubtedly benefit the entire squad in Budapest.

The team is led by Hrvoje Bartolić, our senior team coach, who brings his extensive expertise to guide the young players. Under Bartolić’s leadership, the squad has received top-level preparation and a professional approach ahead of the tournament’s challenges.

The preparation period featured intense training and tactical sessions, with special focus on adapting to the Rugby 7s format — a game that demands speed, precision, and endurance, setting it apart from traditional 15s rugby.

Participation in the Trophy tournament marks an important step in the development of our young players. Competing against strong European teams offers invaluable experience and exposure to different styles of play — a crucial component in shaping their future rugby careers.

While the goal is to achieve strong results, the primary objective remains development — gaining the experience and confidence that will help these players grow into the next generation of top Croatian rugby talent.

Beyond competition, the tournament also serves to promote rugby in Croatia, as every international appearance by our national players inspires new generations and strengthens the sport’s visibility and reputation.

Success at this level could also encourage further investment in youth development and training facilities — vital elements for the long-term growth of rugby in our country.

The Croatian Rugby Union invites all rugby fans to follow the national team’s performances and support our young players. Tournament updates will be posted regularly, with detailed match reports available after the event.

We wish our U18 national team the best of luck in Budapest and hope that our three players — Mihael Jeleč, Ivano Šojić, and Leo Rudnicki — will deliver outstanding performances under the guidance of coach Hrvoje Bartolić. This is their chance to show that Croatian rugby has a bright future ahead.
