Rugby Lager – Zagreb’s First Rugby Beer!

We are extremely proud that, in collaboration with Pivovara Medvedgrad, we’ve created the perfect flavor — worthy of being Croatia’s first rugby beer. When you combine 86 years of tradition (Rugby Club Zagreb founded in 1964, and Pivovara Medvedgrad in 1994), it’s no surprise that Rugby Lager has delighted rugby players and beer lovers alike.
Beyond its great taste, Rugby Lager also carries a special humanitarian purpose. All profits from this beer go directly toward the development of Rugby Club Zagreb’s youth teams — specifically the seven age categories: U6, U8, U10, U12, U14, U16, and U18. The funds will be used to improve training conditions, purchase equipment, and support travel and match organization outside of Croatia. Rugby in Croatia is still an amateur sport — one that requires serious dedication and consistent training to truly enjoy. Since the club’s available resources only cover the most basic operational costs, this beer is a vital contribution to our growth. Every sip of Rugby Lager helps our club — one round means the world to us.
Vlado GržanićVlado Gržanić, president of Rugby Club Zagreb, stated:
“I’m very happy that a local craft brewery like Medvedgrad has supported us. Together, we created our own beer — one that will help our young players enjoy rugby even more. The most important part of my job as president is ensuring that all age groups in the club have everything they need to train and compete.
I’m also thrilled with the taste — it’s truly refreshing! Personally, it’s made my life easier because I never have to think about gifts anymore — a six-pack of Rugby Lager is perfect for any occasion!”
Ivan Nauković from Pivovara Medvedgrad added: “Since the beginning, Pivovara and Pivnica Medvedgrad have supported their community — because without our loyal customers, we wouldn’t exist.
With this project, we are directly and transparently helping the youth of Rugby Club Zagreb by improving their training conditions and enabling them to travel and play abroad. I’m a Dinamo fan myself, but I have many friends who play rugby, so I know how demanding the sport is — and how deeply families are connected to their clubs. Not to mention the legendary third half, where even we spectators are invited to join in and experience what rugby is truly about — camaraderie, open to everyone, from kids to adults.”
